Good afternoon everyone,
Plant party in the laundry room just sounds a bit odd but its exactly what's going down in this house. Every year after the warm summer nights come to an end, I gradually start moving my plants back in the house and decide "enny minny mo" style which plants get to stay and which unfortunately get the organic bin.
As much as I have always wanted to try and overwinter them all, there is only so much room in the house and I don't love tropical plants all over during the Christmas season (crazy I know but plants a plenty just don't scream Christmas with the snow).
Anyways I conned Trevor into helping me put up some shelves in our quite sunny and warm (with a little added help of humidity and heat from the dryer) laundry room.
There was a nice big wall with just a basket hanging on it so down it came and up went some shelves
this was an instagram photo i snapped right after we got them hung and i couldn't wait but 1 second to get a plant on these babies.
i used the ikea ekby brackets, and rough sawn plain pine from rona
and now with my plant jungle fully in place.
our country-ish nights are pretty cool around here at this time of year so all the plants i wanted to keep and save had to find a home on these shelves and in our spare room upstairs (however that table is mostly orchids up there)
the big bamboo pole (anyone been to jamaica and just get that song stuck in their head?)
hangs on rod hooks from the hardware store and it did need to be moved forward a bit so i could still use it for more plants..... ahem hanging wet clothes on hangers
some of the displaced air plants ended up in here as well.
i found homes for a lot of them in our fall decor but since i have a collecting hoarding issue with these babies some needed to go in here
so..... Speaking of plant collecting, I have a little fun for my local followers. (this means you have to be able to and intend to drive to my store at 137 Highway 20 East in Fonthill, Ontario).
this jungle in the laundry room is only a part on my plant collection so as of today (i counted today twice to double check) take a shot at guessing how many plants reside inside the walls of the Oliver and Rust house and you can earn yourself a $25.00 gift certificate to the Oliver and Rust store
