Oliver and Rust house rearranging and diy-ing; live edge console table

Good morning everyone,

A little change up in our front hall / living room. After we finished up our new front foyer with the white paint and a bit simpler look, the dresser that stood in our little hallway entrance thing into our living room didn't really look right. The dresser was a quick fix for storage when we moved in 7 years ago and went through 2 paint colours but never really fit the spot properly. It was a little too deep and not wide enough. The top drawer wasn't really a drawer as this was a secretary top so it really only gave 3 drawers of storage which kind of became a dumping ground. My overly lengthened organize my entire house for the past year within a inch of its life mode caught on to this area as well.

About a year ago I started going room by room, purging closets, dressers, storage rooms of anything we weren't using, wearing. We did it slowly and purposely. I didn't want to get rid of things that Emma may want some day but, we are no longer keeping things we had in our first home that don't fit or just because someone's someone gave it to us. I also had a massive career change 2 years ago and a closet full of scrubs is not something I need to hang onto anymore. If it's taking up space its out.

So that's a long winded way of saying I purged our front closet and made proper space for the things that were in the dresser and we no longer needed a storage piece here.

A blank wall was not an option I mean come on right?

So I started the hunt for something to go here and came across a lot of "almosts"

Our central vacuum outlet is on this wall so the legs of almost everything invariably are right in the wrong spot so make something became the new name of the game

A live edge console table a bit taller than most on the market and a white base to appear light instead of the general black. You can see the central vac outlet hiding right inside the leg.

A refresher of the dresser that used to live here.

I had Trevor make some simple U shaped legs out of 2x4's which I painted and waxed white. We bought a raw piece of live edge that I again did a wax finish on. Attached the two and voila!

A new space for a tropical boho vignette. Plus a place for plants!!

All the things I already had on hand and just shifted or moved around. The buddha and lanterns were actually decor being used at floor level so by moving them up, there is less clutter on the floor to clean around. I know some of you still see clutter on the table but, pretty vignettes make me happy, and its my house so there!

My favourite english watering can

The subway scroll got displaced in the front hall when I moved my army picture collection and I thought the black and white looked a little more industrial meets something in the living room rather than the big prints that were here.

The way our front hall leads to a hallway and then the living room is a little strange and lends to having two tables a little bit side by side but they tie together better now than the dresser did and we really love how it turned out.

Hey and it's Friday so have a great weekend everyone

Meg
