White Kantha Quilt.
Traditional Kantha quilt.
Kantha, meaning patched cloth, refers to both the tradition of producing and assembling these unique quilted blankets. The original purpose of creating these quilts was to repurpose loose discarded pieces of fabric and make them useful again. The original use would have been to keep people warm not necessarily decorative as we use them here.
These quilts are made and stitched by hand by women in India.
Kantha quilts are hand stitched together using a straight running stitch.
The quilt is a lightweight quilt and features thousands of stitches.
The odd hand stitch may pull loose and is easily snipped and will not affect the integrity of the quilt.
